STUDENT VISAS: 


Am I eligible for a student visa ?

You must be be a student in a higher education establishment or a training organization and be able to prove that you have at least 615 euros per month to cover your cost of living. 


What is the duration of a student visa ?

Student visas in France vary in duration and can go from 4 months to 1 year. You can renew your student visa for a maximum duration of 4 years. This will be an ordinary visa allowing you to stay in France.


What administrative steps do I need to follow in order to get a student visa ? 

The administrative procedure can be done online:

If you succeeded a competitive exam or have studied in France since you were 16 years old, you may complete the administrative procedure directly at the "préfecture".

Your visa must be validated in the 3 months upon your arrival on the following website:

Please note that you will be asked to pay 50 euros excluding taxes.


What are the administrative steps I need to take in order to renew my student visa ?

Your renewal request must be done between 2 and 4 months before your visa expires. You will have to go the "préfecture" in order to have your fingerprints taken and pay a 75 euros fee. Your visa will be renewed for the number of years necessary to complete your studies.


What are the other benefits of student visas ?

Good news ! With your visa, you can also work legally under the condition that you don't work for more than 964 hours/year.


INTERN VISAS:


Am I eligible for an intern visa ?

You may be eligible for an intern visa if your internship has a minimum 6 month duration or you were offered 12 to 18 months of training by your school or place of work back in the United States.


What are the administrative steps I need to take in order to get an intern visa ?

You will have to provide proof of an internship contract delivered by your school or employer and prove that you have the financial means to live in France.

Your school or employer will need to send your internship contract by "lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception" to the "préfecture" located in the city where your internship is taking place, two months prior to the start of your internship.

FYI : If you will be interning at the same company for three or more months, your employer will need to pay you.
