Are foreigners eligible for social housing ?

Social housing is open to French citizens and foreigners under the condition that their current visa allows them to stay in France.

The french government provides social housing to those who have low financial means. This is determined by taking into consideration how much money the applicant makes, if they have children, how many people will be renting the apartment and the apartment's location.

You can request for social housing online on:

If, for example, you apply for social housing in 2022, you will be asked to provide your 2021 tax notice which will indicate how much you earned in 2020.

If you don't receive an answer to your request for social housing in the following year, you must renew your request in order to continue being considered for social housing.

If you qualify for social housing but don't receive a positive response to your request after what is qualified an "abnormal period of time" and have no place to stay, you may file a special request to the "Commission départementale de médiation".
